So, I'm 18 weeks now, and everyone keeps asking me if I'm feeling anything?...Anything...yes, babies...nope. So when I say no, of course all keep saying well, I felt mine at 10,11,12,13,14 weeks. I also get the famous...OMG your having twins and you never felt them yet? It makes me nutty...my mind starts to second guess, and I get nervous. Am I normal, 'cause all these strangers don't seem to think I am? I think being a nurse actually makes it worse, you start to think the worst, recalling all these strange text book stories...that I'm sure you all don't want to know about. So, this week at work I was telling the girls my story, they were reassuring, but judging by the look on my face, that obviously wasn't enough. So, with no patients in the recovery room, out comes the doppler ( which is a machine to detect blood flow ie; a heart beat). We use it at work if we think a patient might have a thrombosis (blocked vein) somewhere. To be honest, we have not used it since I have been there...until now!!! So, up I get on the stretcher, Danika gels up my belly (and of course we don't have a nice gel warmer like in the actual ultrasound room)...and there it was... 3 distinct heartbeats. NO, don't get ahead of your self...2 babies plus mine. Mine at 86, both little ones at 166bpm...Fewwwfff...what a relief.
By the way, I am not abnormal. It's well documented that some women don't feel any movement until 22-24 weeks...even with twins. I will be headed to Moncton next Tuesday to see my neonatologist...Keep ya posted.

My doctor told me today that I should not expect to feel anything until at least 20 weeks......he also told me that all my blood tests came back fine...event the one for Syphilis! Whew! I was worried about THAT one! heheheh
Jill don't sweat...I was over 20 weeks before I felt anything at all then all of a sudden it wouldn't stop. I just blamed in on Kamryn being lazy like her father...Don't stress yourself out so much...you have to become and patient and leave you nursing background at work, otherwise you are going to take the enjoyment of your pregnancy away from yourself....all will be fine....take a deep breath....this is suppose to be fun...enjoy it.!!
Hi Jill
This is crystal mallaley now gulliver. I am currently 25 weeks and only felt movement at 21 weeks, don't sweat it. And yes, as nurses we do think the worst it's hard to turn into patients with all our scary stories
hey jill...i know how hard it is being the patient when you're in healthcare. i only started feeling movement at 21 weeks and even then it was occasional. hopefully you'll feel your little ones kicking up a storm soon...it's a really strange feeling at first!
Dear anonymous: I had to delete your comment...but for a good reason!! I have been asking everybody and anybody for help with some boy names for the past few weeks. Up until a few days ago we had a few in mind. But nothing written in stone... until just very recently. Ironically one of the names that you had suggested, is one of the names that we have chosen...and were planning to keep a secret!! good job and good thinking.
P.S. Please don't let this stop you from any further commenting, I love to read them all...
...and thanks gals for the reassurance.
Carrying your baby is definately the world's best feeling however the downside, if we want to call it that, is the 24 hrs a day of worrying for the little person! I worried when I was waiting for the first kick, first ultrasound, number of kicks a day and so on....after 41 weeks a healthy baby finally arrived.
Cant wait to read your next entry. I laugh more and more with each addition.
hey honey,
Don't worry about movement. Most first time people only feel true movement at 18-20 weeks and it usually later for twins because they are generally smaller for gestational age. So don't freak my dear. If you have any concerns just go get one of the girls to stick a doppler on your tummy and listen to their beautiful hearts. I find it the most beautiful sound. It almost makes me cry each time I listen to one.
I can't wait to see the babes.
Cheers
